Tinubu: I Feared High BP, But Falcons’ Comeback Blew Me Away

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Super Falcons for their remarkable resilience and fighting spirit during their dramatic comeback victory in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against hosts Morocco.

Speaking while hosting the team at the Aso Villa on Monday evening, President Tinubu revealed that he initially avoided watching the high-stakes match out of fear for his health.

“Honestly, I did not want to watch the match. I didn’t want high blood pressure,” he said. “But people came into my room and turned on my TV to that channel. When it was 2-0, I got very restless and very offended. But I was still there watching.”

The Super Falcons stunned the home crowd in Rabat on Sunday by overturning a 2-0 deficit to clinch a 3-2 victory, showcasing extraordinary tenacity and composure under pressure.

President Tinubu praised the team’s performance, describing it as a reflection of Nigeria’s enduring spirit.

“I was impressed by the indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage of the team,” he stated.

The win secured Nigeria’s record-extending 12th WAFCON title and further solidified the Super Falcons’ status as the most successful women’s national team in Africa.

The President’s reception underscores the significance of the victory not just in sporting terms but also as a symbol of national pride and unity.
