President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, stating that the removal of fuel subsidy was a strategic move to secure the future of generations yet unborn.
Speaking at the inauguration of the National Youth Congress Planning Committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that every decision taken by his government is aimed at building a prosperous Nigeria for the youth.
“I’ve listened to you carefully. Today is not for long speeches, but I want to reassure you that you are the hope of this country. Every decision I’ve made is about securing tomorrow,” Tinubu said.
The President underscored the importance of investing in infrastructure and economic development to curb the mass emigration of young professionals.
“When you remove oil subsidy, you’re protecting the future of generations yet unborn. Where’s the investment for infrastructure? Many professionals are leaving Nigeria because they seek better opportunities. But if we grow prosperity here and empower people, they will stay home to build and develop their own country,” he added.
The Economy Has Turned the Corner
Addressing concerns about economic challenges, Tinubu expressed optimism, stating that the country is witnessing improvements.
“When we started, it looked foggy and uncertain. We were fetching water from a dry well. But today, the economy has turned the corner. Prices are falling, confidence is growing, investors are looking in, and technology is advancing. You have the opportunity to shape Nigeria’s future.”
The President encouraged young Nigerians to actively engage in governance and nation-building, assuring them that his administration is open to constructive dialogue.
“Look me in the face and tell me whatever you think is wrong and how you want things done. We will implement suggestions that drive Nigeria’s prosperity,” he assured.
Empowering the Youth for a Prosperous Future
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended Tinubu’s administration for prioritizing youth engagement. He noted that the upcoming youth conference aims to integrate young people into governance and decision-making.
He further highlighted that the planning committee comprises representatives from the Federal Ministry of Finance, key government agencies, civil society organizations, NGOs, and the World Bank, among others.
A lead member of the planning committee and Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo, praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing his recognition of the youth as a positive step towards national development.
As he inaugurated the committee, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to youth empowerment, innovation, and economic growth.
“I am with you. Let’s employ technology in every way possible, improve our farming conditions, and work towards food sovereignty. I wish you a successful and impactful engagement,” he said.
While jokingly expressing his admiration for the youth, he added, “I like you all. I can’t be young again, maybe in the next life, but I am envious of you.”
