Tinubu Flags Off 2,000 Tractors in Landmark Push for Food Security and Agricultural Revolution

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday launched a fleet of 2,000 tractors under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, marking what he described as a defining step toward Nigeria’s agricultural transformation and national food security.

The high-profile commissioning took place at the National Agricultural Seeds Council in Sheda, along the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway, and signals the federal government’s readiness to modernise the nation’s farming practices and scale up food production.

“This is a landmark moment in our food security agenda,” President Tinubu declared. “We made a promise when we came in, and we are fulfilling that promise.”

The President recalled raising the alarm two years ago over the country’s looming food crisis and noted that Monday’s commissioning represents a bold answer to that call for action.

“This government recognises that agricultural productivity is synonymous with national stability and food sovereignty. The ability to nourish our population forms the bedrock of a prosperous nation,” he said.

According to Tinubu, the deployment of the 2,000 tractors is only the beginning. He said the programme is not just aimed at self-sufficiency but at positioning Nigeria as a global agricultural powerhouse capable of feeding its citizens and exporting quality produce to international markets.

“We envision a Nigeria where every citizen can access affordable, nutritious food. This initiative is a crucial part of empowering our farmers and stimulating rural development,” he added.

The Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme is a flagship component of the Tinubu administration’s broader drive to address food insecurity, enhance agricultural output, and create jobs across the country.
