President Bola Tinubu on Thursday declared the opposition parties and emerging coalition movements as “dead,” asserting that only “empty vessels” remain in their ranks.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far”, the President mocked the state of the opposition while expressing confidence that more high-profile defections to the ruling party are imminent.
Referencing the recent wave of defections, including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other top leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Tinubu reiterated that party membership is a matter of constitutional freedom.
“As many as are willing to join the APC fold are welcome,” he declared, citing Section 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantees freedom of movement.
The remarks were made as all 22 governors of the ruling party, under the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the President, reinforcing their support for his administration and its “Renewed Hope” agenda.
