President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has summoned an emergency session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) following the death of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The special meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, will be dedicated to honouring the late statesman, who passed away on Sunday at a London clinic while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
In a personally signed statement, President Tinubu described Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria as “towering” and announced that the Federal Government will accord him full state honours.
“I have also summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council session on Tuesday, dedicated to his honour. The Federal Government will accord President Buhari full state honours befitting his towering contributions to our country,” Tinubu stated.
The president also offered prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul, asking God to forgive his shortcomings.
Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour in from across the country, with prominent Nigerians and political leaders extending condolences to Buhari’s family and the nation at large.
