President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Mr. Mark Joseph Carney following his victory in the recent Canadian parliamentary elections, which ushered him in as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada under the Liberal Party banner.
In a statement released by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the outcome of the keenly contested election, describing it as a timely win for Canada as it navigates complex global and domestic challenges.
The President highlighted Carney’s impressive credentials, noting his previous leadership as Governor of the Bank of Canada (2008–2013) and the Bank of England (2013–2020), emphasizing that his wealth of experience in economic and public policy positions him well for the demands of the office.
President Tinubu expressed optimism that Carney’s background in banking and governance would steer Canada toward greater stability and prosperity.
He further reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Canada, with particular focus on education, climate change, and migration.
“I look forward to establishing a dynamic and forward-looking partnership with Prime Minister Carney’s government, building on the goodwill and cooperation established under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,” President Tinubu said.
The message signals Nigeria’s readiness to engage more robustly with Canada on shared global priorities.
