President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGoF), effective March 7, 2025. His appointment follows a rigorous selection process aimed at ensuring transparency, excellence, and competence in public service.
A statement released on Monday by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Ogunjimi was chosen through a merit-based process involving senior Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service. The selection process comprised three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.
Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as the successor to the outgoing Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, in December 2024. His official appointment now sets the stage for a smooth transition upon Madehin’s retirement.
A seasoned financial expert, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1990), and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to serve with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s financial management.
