President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), a key component of his administration’s efforts to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
The appointment was announced in a statement on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Ahmed is expected to oversee and coordinate the operations of the initiative, which aims to provide Nigerians with cheaper, cleaner, and more sustainable energy alternatives through compressed natural gas (CNG) solutions.
According to the Presidency, the PCNGi forms part of the broader palliative intervention programme designed to support citizens amid ongoing economic reforms.
Aged 45, Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Abuja (2005) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006 after attending the Nigerian Law School in Abuja. He also earned a master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008.
Prior to this appointment, Ahmed served as Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme from 2018 to 2022.
