President Bola Tinubu has appointed Aisha Garba, an international development specialist and senior education expert with the World Bank, as the new Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Garba, who boasts over 24 years of experience in driving impactful education programs across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond, brings a wealth of expertise in designing and managing educational reforms.
A seasoned professional, Garba has led initiatives from conception to impact assessment, working closely with governments, development partners, and communities. She previously played a key role in achieving Nigeria’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and has consulted for global organizations, including the World Bank, DFID, BOND-UK, Regent Foundation, and Muslim Aid Organisation.
An alumna of Petra American University, Jordan, Garba earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Computer Studies and later obtained a Master’s in International Development from the University of Birmingham, UK.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said Garba is expected to advance the administration’s vision for quality basic education and ensure Nigerian children are globally competitive.
