President Bola Tinubu has commended the National Assembly for ratifying the state of emergency proclamation in Rivers State, describing the move as a crucial step toward restoring stability following the state’s prolonged political crisis.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and other lawmakers for prioritizing the security and welfare of Rivers residents over partisan considerations.

Both the Senate and House of Representatives approved the emergency declaration despite strong opposition from various stakeholders. The approval also includes a six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Tinubu emphasized that the National Assembly’s decision reflects what the country can achieve when leaders act with unity and patriotism.

“Today’s decision exemplifies what our nation can achieve when unity of purpose and patriotism guide the actions of leaders,” the statement read. “We remain steadfast in pursuing a safer, more prosperous Nigeria—one where every citizen’s potential is safeguarded and nurtured.”

The president reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring security and stability across the country while addressing political tensions in Rivers State.
