The Israeli military has confirmed that a large-scale retaliation from Iran is underway, marking a significant escalation in regional hostilities.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), over 100 drones have been launched by Iran toward Israeli territory. IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari (Effie Defrin) stated that the country’s aerial defense systems are actively engaged in intercepting the threats.
“This is a different event from what we’ve experienced thus far, and we’re expecting difficult hours ahead,” Hagari said in a televised briefing.
The development follows a series of Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets, in what the IDF described as a “pre-emptive, precise, combined offensive based on high-quality intelligence.” The operation, dubbed Operation Rising Lion, reportedly targeted strategic military assets across Iran.
Among those killed in the Israeli strikes was Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces — a move that significantly raises the stakes in the ongoing conflict.
Israel has declared a state of emergency and placed its military on high alert as it braces for further retaliation.
