Tensions Escalate as Indian, Pakistani Troops Exchange Gunfire in Kashmir

0

Fresh gunfire erupted overnight between Indian and Pakistani troops across the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region, amid rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

The clash comes just hours after the United Nations called for “maximum restraint” following a deadly shooting incident that has further strained already fragile relations.

According to Reporters, diplomatic ties between India and Pakistan have plunged to their lowest level in years. New Delhi has accused Islamabad of backing “cross-border terrorism” in the wake of a recent attack that claimed the lives of several civilians—marking the deadliest assault in Muslim-majority Kashmir in over 25 years.

While both nations routinely accuse each other of ceasefire violations along the heavily militarized LoC, the latest exchange has raised fears of a broader escalation. The international community continues to urge both sides to avoid further violence and return to diplomatic dialogue.
