Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State cast his vote early Saturday at Unit 9, Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government Area, as the highly contentious election kicked off across the state.
The governor arrived at the polling unit around 8 a.m., voting under a cloud of tension and fears of potential unrest.
Despite warnings from the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and calls from the Nigeria Police Force to suspend the election due to possible security threats, the exercise proceeded as scheduled.
The Labour Party, citing safety concerns, announced its withdrawal from the poll, stating that the security of its agents could not be guaranteed.
The atmosphere remains tense as voters head to the polls amid growing concerns over possible clashes between political party supporters.
