Barely two hours after the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari was announced, mourners began arriving at his Kaduna residence on Jabi Close to pay their final respects.
Among the earliest visitors was former Minister of Water Resources, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, who confirmed to The Nation that Buhari’s remains would be flown back to Nigeria for burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
Though it was unclear which members of the Buhari family were present, neighbours and sympathisers gathered solemnly along the street. Many appeared visibly emotional, quietly reminiscing about the late statesman’s legacy.
Security was promptly tightened around the area. Two military gun trucks were stationed nearby, while heavily armed soldiers patrolled the vicinity, restricting vehicular access and preventing unnecessary movement along the narrow street.
The atmosphere was sombre as political associates and members of the public continued to stream in, offering prayers for the repose of the former President and strength for his grieving family.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be formally announced by the family in collaboration with the Katsina State Government.
