Tambuwal Slams APC Over Economic Crisis, Calls for Fulfilling Campaign Promises

Former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its failure to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges, urging the party to fulfill its campaign promises instead of attacking its critics.

Speaking on Saturday, Tambuwal questioned the motivations of politicians defecting to the APC, claiming that no individual with a conscience would join the ruling party. He argued that the country’s ongoing economic crisis had made APC membership increasingly unappealing, with defections driven by “stomach infrastructure.”

In response, APC spokesperson Felix Morka dismissed Tambuwal’s comments, calling him a “notorious and vainglorious party defector” and accusing him of hypocrisy. Morka pointed to Tambuwal’s own history of political defections as evidence of self-interest.

Tambuwal’s media office swiftly released a statement on Monday condemning Morka’s remarks as an attempt to deflect attention from the country’s growing economic and security issues. The statement accused the APC of using “cheap propaganda and personal attacks” to stifle opposition and distract from governance failures.

The statement went on to criticize the APC for its handling of Nigeria’s worsening economic situation, including rising inflation, escalating insecurity, and the increasing unemployment that has pushed many businesses to shut down and plunged citizens into poverty.

Tambuwal’s team also accused the APC of undermining democratic opposition, claiming that the ruling party had resorted to coercion, enticement, and intimidation in an effort to consolidate power and push Nigeria toward a one-party system.

Defending his legacy, Tambuwal emphasized his commitment to selflessness and patriotism, citing his role as a founding member of the APC and his “unassailable record” in public service.
