AKURE – Tragedy struck in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State as suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on four farming communities, killing over 20 residents.
The assailants reportedly stormed Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camps within Ala Elefosan in the early hours of the weekend, opening fire indiscriminately.
Authorities have so far recovered 14 bodies, while search efforts continue for missing persons.
Confirming the incident, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, the Regent of Ademekun Village, recounted that the attackers infiltrated the communities from the Edo-Ondo boundary.
“The herdsmen entered our community and began shooting sporadically. During Akeredolu’s administration, Amotekun intervened, leading to the arrest and parade of some culprits. Since then, peace had returned—until now,” she lamented.
Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, assured residents that police operatives have been deployed to the affected areas to restore order and prevent further violence.
