The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially reinstated Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in compliance with a Supreme Court ruling.
INEC’s decision was reached during its meeting on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, where it reviewed the apex court’s judgment delivered on November 27. The Supreme Court, in a unanimous verdict by a five-member panel led by Justice Stephen Adah, declared Ezeokenwa as the authentic chairman of APGA while ruling that Edozie Njoku had no legal claim to the position.
A statement by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, confirmed the Commission’s alignment with the court’s decision:
“The Commission has been served with the judgement of the Supreme Court in Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 (APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS), delivered on 27th November 2024, which recognises Barr. Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the chairman of the party. In compliance with the judgement, the Commission has restored Barr. Ezeokenwa as APGA Chairman and updated our records accordingly.”
This development resolves the prolonged leadership tussle within APGA, affirming Ezeokenwa’s legitimacy as the party’s national chairman.
