Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one spot to 44th in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday, despite gaining 2.91 points to reach a total of 1484.26.

The marginal improvement in points reflects Nigeria’s recent performances, which include two draws and a win during the latest international window. However, it wasn’t enough to maintain their previous 43rd position, as other nations posted stronger results.

The Super Eagles now sit just behind Paraguay and narrowly ahead of Côte d’Ivoire, who dropped four places to 45th with 1483.45 points following a string of less impressive outings.

At the global level, reigning world champions Argentina held on to the top spot, despite losing 0.8 points. Spain surged to second place after earning 12.45 points, overtaking France, who now sit third. England and Brazil complete the top five.

Portugal and the Netherlands each climbed one position to 6th and 7th respectively, with Portugal registering the biggest points gain among the top ten teams, adding 20.45 points. Germany slipped to 9th despite no change in their point total, while Italy dropped two places to 11th after losing 15.73 points.

Mexico recorded the most significant rise within the top 20, jumping four places to 13th after an impressive 42.79-point boost. The United States and Norway also saw notable increases, each gaining more than 20 points.

Meanwhile, San Marino remains rooted at the bottom of the global standings, ranked 210th with 738.24 points.

The FIFA World Rankings are updated periodically and are influenced by international match results. They serve as a key determinant in tournament seedings and offer a current snapshot of the global football hierarchy.
