A United Kingdom-based Nigerian legal practitioner and philanthropist, Professor Gaskin Igbineweka, has called on Nigerians to desist from ridiculing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over alleged past legal matters in the United States.
In a press release issued in Benin City, Professor Igbineweka, who also serves as the President of the Nigerian Welfare Club in the UK, cautioned against what he described as the constant embarrassment and castigation of the Nigerian leader.
He stated that, as a matter of law, “even if the President committed any crime in the U.S when he was there, such conviction had been vitiated and his slate wiped clean.”
The elder statesman emphasized that President Tinubu is the leader of the world’s most populous Black nation and should be accorded the respect due to his office. He described continued attacks on the president’s character as unpatriotic and counterproductive.
“As a patriot,” Professor Igbineweka said, “I will support whoever becomes Nigeria’s president, regardless of their political background or ethnic affiliation.”
