Stop Attacking Obi, Focus on Nigeria’s Problems – Sam Amadi Tells Government Officials

0

Dr. Sam Amadi, former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has criticised the persistent verbal attacks on Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by senior officials in the current administration.

In a commentary shared on his official X account, Amadi expressed concern over what he described as a “growing pattern” of unwarranted criticisms directed at Obi. According to him, while Nigerian politicians spend time targeting Obi, the former Anambra State governor has remained focused on the country’s worsening socio-economic conditions.

Amadi highlighted recent remarks by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other government officials, which he said reflect a misdirected political culture that prioritizes personal attacks over national discourse.

Obi had recently stated that “the labour of our heroes past has gone in vain,” a sobering comment on Nigeria’s current state. His words drew sharp rebukes, notably from Akpabio, who accused him of disrespecting the legacy of the nation’s founding fathers. Sanwo-Olu also criticised Obi over his economic commentary during a foreign engagement, while the Presidency dismissed Obi’s proposals on governance and reform.

Amadi defended Obi, stating that despite the political heat, he has consistently avoided personal attacks and maintained focus on urgent structural reforms, transparency, and economic revival.

“If elections were a purely rational exercise, Peter Obi is so far the only candidate who ought to be elected,” Amadi declared.

His remarks have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians supporting his call for public officeholders to focus on solving the country’s problems rather than vilifying opposition voices.
