Sowore Slams Renaming of Lagos Landmarks, Alleges Political Vendetta and Tribal Targeting

Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticized the recent renaming of streets and landmarks in Lagos State, describing the move as politically motivated and ethnically divisive.

This comes after a viral video showed Lagos State officials renaming the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop — a decision that has sparked widespread outrage among residents and social media users.

In a statement released on Saturday, Sowore condemned the development, warning that it “appears to be part of a xenophobic and divisive agenda orchestrated to target specific ethnic groups and punish political opponents of the ruling APC regime in Lagos.”

He argued that the approach taken by the government indicates a deeper, more troubling political motive.
“The manner in which the renamings are being carried out leaves no doubt that this is not merely a matter of urban planning, but a calculated political vendetta,” Sowore said.

He called for the immediate reversal of the changes, insisting that Lagos belongs to all Nigerians and must not be used as a tool for “tribal, political, or ideological cleansing.”

“These actions must be reversed. The public must resist this creeping authoritarianism masked as civic order,” he added.

Many critics share Sowore’s sentiments, accusing the Lagos State Government of using renaming as a subtle strategy to erase cultural identities and suppress dissent.
