Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, has accused powerful elites of conspiring to abandon human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, in prison. Sowore made this allegation in a statement shared on his X account on Friday.
The accusation follows a petition filed by Afe Babalola’s law firm to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), seeking to expunge Farotimi’s name from Nigeria’s roll of legal practitioners. The petition is related to Farotimi’s defamation case with Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Sowore claims that the alleged conspiracy involves the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, judges, and politically influential lawyers. He suggested that the plan is to have Farotimi abandoned in prison, manipulated by a kangaroo magistrate court, and effectively silenced.
Despite these allegations, Sowore vowed to continue the fight for Farotimi’s justice. He emphasized that the struggle would persist until justice is achieved for the embattled lawyer.
