Sowore Accuses Afe Babalola, Police, and Judicial Officers of Conspiring Against Dele Farotimi

Activist politician Omoyele Sowore has accused Aare Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University, police officers, and judicial officials of conspiring to orchestrate the legal challenges faced by activist lawyer, Dele Farotimi.

Sowore’s comments came in response to the ruling of an Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court, which ordered that Farotimi be remanded in prison. Farotimi was arraigned on charges of defamation and character assassination following the publication of his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System. The book allegedly contained defamatory statements about Afe Babalola.

During the court proceedings, Farotimi pleaded not guilty to all 16 charges leveled against him.

In his reaction, Sowore claimed that the Nigerian justice system was being manipulated, stating that the trial and subsequent incarceration of Farotimi were prearranged. In a post on X, Sowore wrote, “The Nigerian justice system is wack, as expected. @DeleFarotimi has been hurriedly prosecuted and sent to prison after being denied bail by a judge in Ado Ekiti, pre-arranged to do the same.”

He further alleged that the police, Afe Babalola, and judicial officers had planned Farotimi’s arrest and prosecution in advance. “The @policeng, Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, and the judicial officers had it all planned out even before they sent the goons from Ekiti state command RRS (formerly SARS) to abduct him,” Sowore said.

The case has been adjourned to December 10, 2024. Sowore concluded his statement with a call for a revolution, asserting, “Nigeria is overdue for a REVOLUTION.”
