South Korea’s acting president, Han Duck-soo, is set to resign on Thursday to pursue a bid for the nation’s top office in the upcoming June 3 presidential election. Citing rising public support, Han aims to leverage his national prominence following the removal of former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Han will formally announce his candidacy on Friday. Following his resignation, Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok is expected to assume acting leadership in accordance with legal provisions.
Han’s office has yet to officially comment on the development.
