In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex sociopolitical youth group in Nigeria’s South East region, has announced plans to organize a massive endorsement rally in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
The rally, which is expected to draw an estimated five million participants, will be held in Abia State, the home state of Senator Kalu, who currently represents Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly. According to COSEYL, the event is aimed at mobilizing support for both leaders while showcasing their leadership qualities, achievements, and commitment to national development.
In a statement jointly signed by the President General of COSEYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and the group’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Okey Nwaoru, the youth coalition declared that the South East is solidly behind President Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing visible signs of progress and inclusion under his administration. The group emphasized that Senator Kalu remains one of the most influential and transformative political figures from the South East, whose efforts continue to bridge the gap between the region and the center.
“We are proud to announce our readiness to host a five-million-man rally in Abia State to declare our total support for the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the continued political relevance of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,” the statement read.
“The South East is pleased and satisfied with the exceptional leadership and transformational contributions of Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. His consistent delivery of democratic dividends—spanning education, road construction, agriculture, and youth empowerment—has endeared him to our people and positioned him as a true statesman of national unity and regional progress.”
COSEYL noted that under Senator Kalu’s representation, the South East has witnessed notable infrastructural developments and empowerment initiatives that have directly impacted thousands of lives, particularly the youth. The group listed several completed and ongoing projects attributed to Kalu’s intervention, including renovated primary and secondary schools, federal road rehabilitations, agricultural support programs for rural farmers, and entrepreneurial training schemes for young people.
“These are not just promises on paper. These are tangible results that speak to the senator’s integrity and tireless dedication to uplifting our people,” the group said.
On President Tinubu’s leadership, the coalition praised the administration for showing signs of inclusivity and renewed commitment to tackling longstanding national challenges. According to COSEYL, the President’s strategic policies and reforms—though still in progress—demonstrate his intent to stabilize the economy, foster national cohesion, and ensure equitable development across all regions.
“We believe in the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu. We believe in his vision for a stronger Nigeria, and we believe that with committed leaders like Senator Orji Kalu working closely with him, the future of this nation will be far brighter,” COSEYL added.
The youth coalition expressed optimism that the rally would send a strong message of unity and political resolve from the South East to the rest of the country. They called on all well-meaning Igbo youths, civil society groups, student associations, and grassroots organizations to join hands in making the event a landmark demonstration of collective political will.
“As we approach the 2027 elections, it is important for the South East to align with national realities while pushing for greater regional development,” the statement concluded. “This rally will mark the beginning of a new chapter—one where the South East speaks with one voice, stands with proven leaders, and works for a better Nigeria under the continued leadership of President Tinubu and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.”
The date and venue of the rally are expected to be officially announced in the coming weeks.
