Governor Charles Soludo, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, has dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC) as lacking the foundation to make a serious impact in the state.
During a recent interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Soludo expressed confidence in APGA’s chances, despite the expected challenges of the race. He rejected the notion that federal influence would play a deciding role in the election, asserting that such claims were based on faulty premises.
“Your premise about federal might is problematic. If you look at states like Edo, Imo, and Kogi, you’ll see that they were not clear-cut wins for the APC. In Imo and Kogi, the incumbents were re-elected, and in Edo, APC and PDP were neck and neck. But in Anambra, APC doesn’t even have a councillor, let alone the political structure needed to win,” Soludo remarked.
He emphasized that the APGA approach to the election would be one of humility, with his party approaching the race as though they were the underdogs. Despite his strong belief in his party’s victory, Soludo vowed not to take anything for granted, stating, “Every contest is a contest.”
Addressing concerns about potential interference, the governor expressed his trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the federal government, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring a fair and level playing field. “I have confidence in the institutions organizing the election. The people will vote, and the process will be free and fair,” Soludo affirmed.
In his final remarks, Soludo turned the focus back to governance, pledging to continue the work that had earned him the trust of Anambra’s people. He highlighted his administration’s progress in areas such as security, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, stating that his priorities remained centered on the delivery of services to the people of Anambra, regardless of the electoral outcome.
