ABUJA — Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, on Tuesday openly reaffirmed his friendship and political support for President Bola Tinubu, describing the president as a long-time ally of over two decades.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Soludo made it clear he has “no apologies” for standing by Tinubu and backing his reforms.
“President Tinubu is my friend and has been my friend for 22 years now and counting. You don’t deny a friend — I support him,” Soludo declared.
The governor, who wore a cap adorned with Tinubu’s insignia during the visit, recalled that similar caps were produced when Tinubu visited Anambra State, alongside billboards promoting the idea of “progressives working together.”
He emphasized the need for all political parties that identify as progressive to unite in a broad coalition aimed at strengthening democracy and driving Nigeria’s economic and social development.
“I believe very strongly that all political parties who profess progressivism should actually come together in a massive coalition,” Soludo said.
The former Central Bank governor also commended Tinubu’s policy direction, particularly in the economic sector.
“I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, especially in the area of the economy and structural reforms. We are taking the right steps; we only need to stay the course,” he noted.
Soludo’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about the impact of Tinubu’s economic reforms, with the governor positioning himself firmly in the president’s corner.
