Soludo Appoints Law Mefor as New Information Commissioner, Sacks Nwosu for Incompetence

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed Dr. Law Mefor as the new Commissioner for Information, following the dismissal of the former commissioner, Mr. Paul Nwosu, over alleged non-performance.

According to sources within the Government House, Nwosu’s removal was linked to his perceived failure to adequately manage the state’s communication efforts, leading to a decline in the governor’s public image, particularly as the 2025 governorship election draws near.

“As I speak, Mr. Paul Nwosu has packed his bags from the ministry, and we are just waiting for the sack to be officially announced,” an insider revealed. Several government officials and citizens in Anambra State expressed little surprise at Nwosu’s ousting, suggesting it was long overdue. Some local journalists noted that in nearly three years in office, Nwosu had rarely engaged with the media or provided briefings on government activities, contributing to his reputation as one of the state’s least effective Information Commissioners.

Governor Soludo wasted no time in nominating Nwosu’s successor. At a swearing-in ceremony held at the State Executive Council Chambers in Awka, Dr. Law Mefor took the oath of office. Soludo stressed the importance of effective information dissemination, highlighting Mefor’s wealth of experience in media and public relations.

Mefor, a seasoned writer, public speaker, and media expert with over 25 years in the field, has laid out plans to revamp the state’s information apparatus. His goals include promoting media literacy, fostering partnerships with media organizations, and leveraging technology to modernize the ministry for greater efficiency and accessibility.

With Mefor at the helm, Anambra State is expected to witness a refreshed and more dynamic approach to information management.
