Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has raised alarms over the influence of a powerful cabal surrounding President Bola Tinubu, describing it as more sophisticated and dangerous than the one that existed during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Dalung alleged that Tinubu’s cabal consists of highly educated, ambitious, and well-refined individuals who possess an intricate understanding of power dynamics, making them highly adept at manipulating governance. He emphasized that their ability to control information and access to the president increases their influence, making them more dangerous than any previous cabals in Nigeria’s history.
“They are educated and have a sound knowledge of what power is,” Dalung said. “Their capacity to manipulate power, stifle information, and control access to the president makes them more dangerous than any cabal in the history of this country.”
In comparison, Dalung described Buhari’s cabal as less sophisticated, with members who had limited experience in politics, public administration, and governance. He claimed that while Buhari’s cabal was motivated by parochial interests, their limited strategic understanding of power diminished their impact on the political landscape.
Dalung also expressed discontent over the widespread denial of the existence of such cabals within Nigerian governance. He warned that dismissing their influence would be unfair to future generations. “It would be very, very unfair to posterity to deny the existence of such a dangerous political element that takes over power and pursues ulterior motives using the popular manifesto that was used to gain power,” he stated.
Assessing Tinubu’s administration, Dalung questioned whether the government was fulfilling its constitutional duty to ensure the well-being of Nigerian citizens. He pointed out that Nigerians have not been satisfied with the government’s policies and that the public sentiment is one of frustration.
“Are Nigerians rejoicing over the policies of this government? Certainly not,” Dalung remarked, noting that many ordinary citizens are dissatisfied with the current administration.
Dalung’s comments highlight concerns that the influence of Tinubu’s cabal could not only isolate the president but also exacerbate the struggles of everyday Nigerians, hindering effective governance.
