Benue State, Nigeria – At least six people, including children, were reportedly killed on Sunday night during a renewed attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Adógó settlement in Mbakundu Kindred of Tombo, Buruku Local Government Area.

The gruesome incident occurred around 11:00 pm when the assailants, said to be heavily armed with automatic weapons, stormed the community under the cover of darkness.

In a viral video posted on his official Facebook page, a prominent indigene of the community, Haakyav Tombu Peter, lamented the horrors of the attack, stating that the gunmen moved from house to house, shooting residents and hacking others with machetes.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assault lasted for hours without any security response, leaving the villagers defenceless.

As of Monday morning, six bodies had been recovered and deposited at the Community Health Clinic in Adógó. The deceased have been identified as Ansambe Akpen, Shina Ayom Akpen, Bade Jam Ata, Shiekuma Kpebee, and Sughter Avindigh Taku. The identity of the sixth victim is yet to be confirmed.

Attempts to reach the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to her phone were not answered at the time of filing this report.
