Sheikh Gumi Calls for Selfless Leaders as SUBOPA Honors Top Military Veterans

Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Mahmoud Gumi, has emphasized Nigeria’s urgent need for selfless leaders who prioritize national welfare over personal gain.

Speaking at an award ceremony organized by the Sultan Bello Primary School Old Pupils Association (SUBOPA) in Kaduna, Gumi criticized the current leadership for focusing on personal wealth rather than public service.

“Not the kind of leaders we have in this part of the country who only think of themselves and their families,” he remarked, stressing that Nigeria needs well-trained, well-mannered leaders committed to uplifting communities.

The event honored two distinguished alumni—Major General Abdulmalik Jibrin (Rtd) and Brigadier General Abdulkadir Gumi (Rtd)—recently appointed to key government positions. Jibrin was named Secretary of the Civil Defence, Fire Service, and Immigration Board (CDCFIB) by the Federal Government, while Brigadier General Gumi now chairs Zamfara State’s Security Trust Fund Board.

Sheikh Gumi applauded the Zamfara State Government for prioritizing security by appointing qualified individuals, noting that insecurity has severely impacted education and stability in states like Zamfara.

SUBOPA President, Mohammad Babayo Hassan, highlighted that the honorees’ achievements reflect the values and discipline instilled by their alma mater.

In his acceptance speech, Major General Jibrin dedicated the award to all SUBOPA members, expressing gratitude for their recognition and support.

Sheikh Gumi concluded by urging Nigerians to contribute to national development, emphasizing that true leadership is rooted in selflessness and service.
