The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has confirmed Sheikh Bashir Umar as its new President, following the demise of its former leader, Sheikh AbdulRasheed Hadiyatullah.
In an official statement signed by the Secretary General, Malam Nafi’u Ahmed, the council described Hadiyatullah’s death as a profound loss to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and beyond. The council offered prayers for Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
According to the statement, Sheikh Umar’s appointment followed due process in line with the council’s constitution and internal procedures.
Malam Ahmed expressed confidence in the new president’s leadership, deep scholarship, and unwavering dedication to the principles of Shari’ah and justice. He also noted that the appointment of a new Vice-President would be announced in due course.
The council called on members of the Muslim community to continue offering prayers and support as it remains committed to promoting Islamic values and principles across the country.
