Abuja – The newly appointed Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, officially resumed office on Monday at the Treasury House in Abuja, calling for unity and a renewed commitment to service.
Speaking during the resumption ceremony, Ogunjimi emphasized the need for teamwork in achieving the objectives of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF). He assured staff that he would lead with fairness, vowing not to victimize or marginalize anyone.
“It is good to be back. This is our home, and nobody will drive us out. I want everyone to embrace the spirit of togetherness,” he said. “I am not aligned with any group, and I will not polarize the house. If I fail, we all fail. I am fully committed to public service.”
Addressing concerns about past leadership challenges, Ogunjimi urged staff members to focus on rebuilding the institution’s reputation and putting past issues behind them.
“During my interview, I was asked what I would do differently to change the image of the Treasury House. But I put the question back to you—what will you do differently to correct the perception of the OAGF?” he challenged.
Highlighting his leadership approach, Ogunjimi reassured staff that he would not engage in arbitrary dismissals, a practice he had experienced in the past.
“I have been a victim of situations where a chief executive fires directors out of personal dislike. That will not happen under my watch,” he declared.
President Bola Tinubu had announced Ogunjimi’s appointment last Tuesday, entrusting him with the responsibility of overseeing the nation’s financial management. His tenure begins with a strong emphasis on accountability, collaboration, and institutional integrity.
