Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Briefly Stopped at Abuja Airport, Released After Immigration Watchlist Alert
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was briefly detained by immigration officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom.
The Kogi Central lawmaker, who was reportedly travelling with her husband to attend her stepson’s graduation ceremony, was informed by immigration personnel that her name had been placed on a watchlist, thereby preventing her from boarding the flight initially.
Sources say the senator was eventually cleared and allowed to proceed after a brief delay.
The incident comes amid ongoing tensions between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and the leadership of the Senate. She is currently challenging her recent suspension from the upper chamber, which followed her protest over a change in her seating position.
In addition, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment — an allegation Akpabio has since denied.
The reasons behind her appearance on the watchlist remain unclear as of press time, and no official statement has been issued by immigration authorities.
