Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Rejects Six-Month Suspension, Calls It “Illegal”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has strongly opposed her six-month suspension from the Senate, declaring it unlawful and reaffirming her legitimacy as an elected representative.

In a statement addressing the Senate’s decision, Akpoti-Uduaghan condemned the suspension, stating that it violates the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity.

“Against the culture of silence, intimidation, and victim-shaming, my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity. The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027 and beyond,” she asserted.

Her suspension, announced on Thursday, was based on recommendations from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. The move follows allegations of sexual harassment she made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

As part of the disciplinary action, Akpoti-Uduaghan will be barred from accessing the National Assembly premises, and her salary and security details will be withdrawn for the duration of the suspension.
