The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, commenced its plenary session later than usual, following a shift in its sitting time from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The rescheduling, announced earlier by the Clerk to the Senate, Mr. Andrew Nwoba, was due to the Opening Ceremony of the First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament, held at 10:00 a.m. in Abuja.
Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, attended the regional parliamentary event alongside his deputy, Senator Jibrin Barau, who also serves as the 1st Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.
In a statement issued ahead of the session, Nwoba had informed lawmakers of the time change, stating:
“This is to bring to the attention of Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the Senate will resume its plenary session by 1:00 p.m. instead of 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, 20-05-25.
This shift in time for resumption is due to the Opening Ceremony of the First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament…”
The Senate resumed proceedings as planned after the event, with normal legislative activities now underway. The Clerk extended apologies for any inconvenience the time adjustment may have caused.
