Abuja, Nigeria – Senate Leader Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele has reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to legislative reforms aimed at positioning Nigeria for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with a delegation from the United Kingdom Parliament at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, Bamidele highlighted the upper chamber’s efforts in passing key fiscal and security laws to foster economic growth and national stability.
“Since the inception of the 10th Senate nearly two years ago, I have been discharging my duties with a modest record of accomplishments, particularly in fiscal reform and national security,” Bamidele stated.
He emphasized that bipartisan collaboration within the Senate had led to the passage of crucial legislation aimed at enhancing economic competitiveness, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring national security.
The Senate leader also noted ongoing international collaborations, stating that the Nigerian Parliament is working with global legislative bodies to enhance institutional capacity and governance.
On gender representation, Bamidele assured the UK delegation that the 10th Senate would prioritize policies promoting greater inclusion of women in governance.
In response, Kate Osamor, leader of the UK parliamentary delegation, called for increased female representation in Nigeria’s National Assembly to bridge the existing gender gap in elective offices.
The meeting underscored Nigeria’s commitment to economic transformation, democratic growth, and global partnerships as the country moves toward its ambitious economic targets.
