Senate Confirms PSC, NASC, and AMCON Board Nominees

The Senate has approved the nomination of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Uba Ringim and three others as members of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The other confirmed PSC nominees include Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.), Abdulfatah Mohammed, and Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (retd.). Their confirmation followed the Senate’s consideration and adoption of the report from its Committee on Police Affairs during plenary.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier requested the Senate’s approval of the nominees in a letter dated November 2023, citing Section 154(1) of the Nigerian Constitution.

In a separate resolution, the Senate also confirmed President Tinubu’s nominees for the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC). The report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Fasuyi Oluwole (APC, Ekiti North).

Dr. Saviour Enyiekere (South-South) was approved as NASC chairman for a renewable five-year term. The confirmed commissioners include:

Northwest: Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi and Yusuf A. Yusuf

Northeast: Aminu Ibrahim Malle and Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud

Northcentral: Mark Hanmation Tersoo and Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun

Southwest: Taiwo Olukemi Oluga and Afeez Ipeza-Balogun

Southeast: Festus Ifesinachi Odii (Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu’s nomination was stood down due to a petition)

South-South: Patrick A. Giwa and Mary Ekpenyong

Additionally, President Tinubu requested the Senate to screen and confirm six nominees for appointment to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) board.

The nominees are:

Dr. Bala Bello – Chairman

Yusuf Tegina – Non-executive director (Northcentral)

Adeyemo Adeoye – Non-executive director (Southwest)

Charles Odiong Iyiore – Non-executive director (South-South)

Yahaya Ibrahim – Non-executive director (Northwest)

Emily Chidinma Osuji – Non-executive director (Southeast)

The President’s request, in line with Section 10(1) of the AMCON Establishment Act (2019 as amended), was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
