The Nigerian Senate has adjourned its plenary sessions until January to allow heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to defend their allocations in the proposed ₦49.7 trillion 2025 Appropriations Bill before relevant committees.
The decision was made during Tuesday’s plenary following a motion presented by the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Ashiru Oyelola. The motion, aimed at expediting the budget review process, received unanimous approval via a voice vote presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Sources within the National Assembly disclosed that the Senate is committed to ensuring the timely passage of the budget. A timetable seen by our correspondent indicates that the defense, collation of reports, and final passage of the Appropriations Bill are scheduled to conclude by Friday, January 31, 2025.
This development underscores the Senate’s determination to meet statutory deadlines for the fiscal year, fostering seamless implementation of national projects and programs.
