The Nigerian Senate has officially acknowledged the Federal High Court judgment delivered in favour of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan but says it is yet to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, said the CTC is crucial for a comprehensive legal review and to determine the Senate’s next line of action regarding the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
“The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria acknowledges that a judgment was delivered on July 4th by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the suit instituted by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan,” Adaramodu said.
“However, the Senate is yet to be served with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the said judgment. Our legal representatives, who were present during the proceedings, confirmed that the complete judgment was not read in open court.”
He noted that a formal request has been submitted for the CTC to enable proper scrutiny, particularly given the lack of clarity on whether the court made any direct order nullifying the senator’s suspension.
“Since no party to the case has been officially served with the enrolled order of the judgment, no one can proceed to enforce any perceived relief or order,” he added.
Adaramodu further explained that on the advice of its legal team, the Senate will avoid taking any steps that could jeopardize its legal standing until the CTC is obtained and thoroughly examined.
Reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to due process and the rule of law, he assured the public that the upper legislative chamber would act strictly within the bounds of the Nigerian Constitution once it fully understands the court’s pronouncements.
“We urge the public to remain patient as the Senate awaits official documentation of the ruling. We remain committed to constitutional governance and due process,” he stated.
