A joint team of security operatives has successfully raided criminal hideouts and dislodged suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Aku, Okigwe Council Area of Imo State.
Brig.-Gen. Usman Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Obinze, Owerri, confirmed the operation while addressing the press in Aku, Okigwe, on Tuesday. He stated that the operation, which began on Friday, November 29, was conducted following credible intelligence aimed at clearing the area of suspected IPOB members.
The security team, consisting of the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), successfully displaced a notorious IPOB commander, Ifeanyi Okorienta, and his gang.
Lawal assured residents that peace was beginning to return to the area, urging the people of Aku to cooperate with security operatives by providing reliable information to aid further operations. He also reassured the community that they could safely return home to celebrate the Yuletide season.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, expressed his commitment to continuing cooperation with all security agencies involved in the operation. Meanwhile, Gen. Joseph Chima (Rtd), Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Hope Uzodinma, reaffirmed the state government’s support for security operations, particularly in terms of providing logistics to ensure their success.
