Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has advised residents planning to travel for the 2025 Hajj to ensure they are in good health before embarking on the pilgrimage. The governor made this appeal during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration organized by the First Family of Lagos State and the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Lagos House, Marina.

Speaking at the event themed “My Lord Indeed I Am for Whatever Good You Would Send Me,” Sanwo-Olu congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged residents to remain grateful for growth, rebirth, and collective development in the state.

He said, “By May, those traveling to Mecca will begin their journey. Please ensure you are in good health. If you are ill, refrain from traveling for the 2025 Hajj—stay back and pray here in Nigeria. I pray that God will continue to keep us in peace and unity, allowing us to witness more Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.”

The governor also expressed his gratitude to religious leaders for their continued guidance and teachings, emphasizing the importance of spiritual growth and unity among residents.

Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady of Lagos State, also addressed the gathering, urging residents to extend kindness to the less privileged and embody the essence of true worship by showing compassion and contributing positively to society.

She said, “True worship goes beyond ritual; it reflects in how we treat one another and how we contribute to the betterment of our state and nation. Let us renew our faith in Nigeria and remain steadfast in our prayers.”

Guest speaker at the event, Dr. Munirudeen Ar-Riyardy of the Lagos State University of Education, delivered a lecture on life’s trials and maintaining faith amid challenges. He advised Nigerians to shun sin and refrain from cursing leaders, advocating for a spirit of tolerance and piety.

Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, also called on Lagosians to practice empathy, compassion, and good neighborliness, reminding residents to place their faith in God’s goodness despite societal challenges.

The event marked a collective expression of gratitude and unity, as leaders encouraged residents to reflect on the true essence of worship and community building.
