Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to underestimate the upcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12.

Speaking on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ parley where he officially presented party flags to APC candidates, the governor emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement and urged candidates to intensify their campaign efforts.

Sanwo-Olu noted that his appearance was at the behest of President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as the leader and father of the party, saying, “We are here because our father and leader, President Bola Tinubu, has asked me to come and thank all for holding his base very well.”

Reiterating the need for unity and hard work, Sanwo-Olu said, “We must work the way we ought to do it, showcase and validate our strength in Lagos, and ensure that APC is a party to be proud of. Knock all doors and seek votes.”

The governor cautioned candidates against complacency, noting that every election is local and must be treated with seriousness. “Don’t take anything for granted. Go and work, engage with the people, touch the people, let the people see those they want to vote for,” he said.

Addressing lingering concerns from the party primaries, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged that tensions are normal when multiple aspirants vie for limited positions. However, he called on aggrieved members to respect the supremacy of the party’s decisions and close ranks for the sake of party unity.

“The party is united,” Sanwo-Olu affirmed, urging all candidates and leaders to rally together in the spirit of progress and victory.
