Rivers State Sole Administrator Releases Withheld LG Allocations

Port Harcourt – The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the release of the withheld local government allocations, assuring workers of prompt salary payments.

Speaking during a meeting with heads of local government administrations in Port Harcourt, Ibas acknowledged the financial challenges faced by local government workers, stating, “I feel the pain of the workers.” He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring financial transparency and accountability in the disbursement of public funds.

The Sole Administrator further emphasized the importance of security, urging local government administrators to collaborate with traditional rulers and security agencies in maintaining peace within their jurisdictions.

“You must take the lead in ensuring security within your domains,” he stated.

In response, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Clifford Paul, lauded the Federal Government for appointing Ibas, attributing the decision to his competence and leadership qualities.

Paul, who also serves as the Administrator of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, urged the Sole Administrator to prioritize workers’ welfare, highlighting that local government employees were owed two months’ salaries.

With the release of the withheld allocations, expectations are high for improved governance and the swift resolution of workers’ financial concerns in Rivers State.
