The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has cautioned against interpreting Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s peaceful disposition as a sign of weakness.
Danagogo issued the warning in response to growing criticism from political opponents, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The controversy arose after Danagogo signed a letter inviting lawmakers for a meeting with the governor, a move that some critics challenged.
Wike had dismissed the letter as “useless,” fueling tensions within the state’s political landscape. However, speaking at the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Danagogo defended his actions, emphasizing that writing such letters falls within his official duties and does not constitute an overreach of his position. He noted that similar administrative practices were carried out under the previous administration.
The SSG clarified that his response was not politically motivated but aimed at correcting misrepresentations and setting the record straight. He also commended Governor Fubara for his restraint despite provocations, including the recent incident where the state assembly complex was locked, preventing him from presenting the budget.
