Rivers Political Crisis: APF Urges Governor Fubara to Respect Court Orders, Stop ‘Playing Games’

Amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, the African Patriots Forum (APF) has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to uphold the rule of law and respect court orders, warning that continued defiance could plunge the state into chaos.

In a statement signed by its Global President, Dr. Lanre Solomon, the APF commended the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaehwule, for their commitment to democracy and legal due process. The forum praised the lawmakers for seeking judicial intervention rather than resorting to violence in their dispute with Governor Fubara, following a Supreme Court ruling affirming their legitimacy.

Describing the verdict as a “significant milestone” in the legislative struggle to assert its authority, the APF lauded the lawmakers for their dedication to justice and governance.

“The lawmakers, under Speaker Amaehwule’s leadership, have demonstrated unwavering commitment to democracy, justice, and the people’s interests,” the statement read. “Their courage in defending the rule of law, even in the face of adversity, is commendable.”

The APF accused Governor Fubara of disregarding legal rulings and urged him to align with democratic principles.

“The Governor must quit playing games and respect court orders,” the group stated. “The Supreme Court’s verdict is clear and unequivocal, and any further actions that undermine it would be deemed contemptuous.”

The forum further warned that Governor Fubara’s continued defiance could escalate political instability in the state. It also called on stakeholders to support the legislators in what it described as a crucial fight for democracy.

“The lawmakers’ stand is a powerful reminder that democracy is not just about elections but about upholding justice, equality, and fairness,” the statement concluded.
