Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to the state after a two-week vacation overseas, landing at the international wing of the Port Harcourt Airport, Omagwa, at approximately 7pm. A viral video captured the Governor’s arrival, where he was warmly received by his aides before being swiftly escorted to a waiting SUV.
Sources have revealed that during his time abroad, Fubara engaged in a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London. The meeting has fueled further speculation on the Governor’s political future, particularly amid the ongoing turmoil in Rivers State.
Before his departure, Fubara was also said to have met with his estranged predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike. The peace talks between the two former allies were reportedly facilitated by two Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former Governor from the Western region.
Fubara’s suspension, along with that of his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the state Assembly, was part of the state of emergency declared by President Tinubu, following prolonged political unrest in Rivers.
As Fubara returns to the state, political analysts will be keenly watching the developments that may unfold in the coming days.
