Rivers Crisis: Wike’s Loyalists Block Governor Fubara from Presenting 2025 Budget

0

Tensions escalated in Rivers State on Wednesday as 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, barred Governor Siminalayi Fubara from accessing the State House of Assembly, preventing him from presenting the 2025 budget.

Governor Fubara had reportedly arrived at the Assembly early in the day to fulfill a key provision of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment—laying the 2025 budget before a properly constituted House.

However, Assembly staff, speaking anonymously, claimed there was no formal notification regarding the Governor’s visit.

“I am not aware that the Governor was scheduled to be at the Assembly today (Wednesday). If such information existed, the Rt. Hon. Speaker would have informed us. As of now, we have no knowledge of his visit,” a source stated.

The development marks another chapter in the ongoing political crisis in the state, further deepening the rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
