Abuja, Nigeria – May 23, 2025 — Reno Omokri, former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, citing major economic and security milestones achieved within two years of his administration.
Omokri made the announcement on Friday via his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), just hours after the National Assembly leadership and 22 state governors endorsed Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
“On behalf of #RenosNuggeteers locally and globally, I wholeheartedly endorse the President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for a second term in office, God sparing his life,” Omokri declared. He urged Nigerians to unite behind the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda to “make Nigeria great again.”
He praised Tinubu’s fiscal discipline, stating that the administration had slashed the national debt by $14 billion — from $108.2 billion inherited in May 2023 to $94.2 billion — and completely cleared Nigeria’s debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF. The IMF has reportedly removed Nigeria from its list of debtor nations.
The former presidential aide also commended Tinubu’s handling of the education sector, noting that Nigerian universities have not experienced any industrial action since the start of his administration.
Omokri highlighted key infrastructure projects under construction, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, the East-West Road, and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, describing them as commendable strides.
On national security, he said President Tinubu had made significant progress where his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, faltered. “Under Buhari’s eighth year, not a single bandit leader was arrested, killed, or convicted. But under Tinubu, more than fourteen notorious bandit leaders have been eliminated,” he stated.
He further noted that Nigeria has moved from being the third most insecure country globally to sixth on the Global Terror Index.
Omokri’s endorsement marks a major political shift, as he has long been viewed as a vocal critic of the APC and supporter of opposition figures. His first public meeting with President Tinubu occurred in October 2024, a year after Tinubu assumed office.
As the 2027 elections approach, Omokri’s backing adds weight to the growing momentum behind President Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
