Billionaire businessman and prominent Igbo leader, Prince Arthur Eze, has called on President Bola Tinubu to pardon Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In an interview with journalists in Enugu, Eze emphasized that Tinubu, unlike his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, has a spirit of forgiveness and holds no grudges.
Eze praised President Tinubu for his ongoing commitment to the development of the Southeast region, noting the establishment of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) as a significant step forward. He pointed out that the commission, which has been long-awaited since the end of the Nigeria-Biafra war, would be instrumental in addressing the infrastructure challenges faced by the region.
The industrialist further acknowledged Tinubu’s positive actions toward the Igbo nation, claiming that these measures reflect the president’s genuine love and concern for the people of the Southeast.
Regarding Kanu’s detention, Eze clarified that it was under the Buhari administration that Kanu was detained and subjected to extraordinary rendition from Kenya. Despite the dismissal of all charges against the IPOB leader in Nigerian courts, the government has continued to refuse his release. Eze expressed hope that Tinubu, with his forgiving nature, would consider granting Kanu a pardon.
Eze’s call comes as various stakeholders in the Southeast, including the region’s governors, have expressed their willingness to engage with President Tinubu to seek Kanu’s release, highlighting ongoing regional support for the IPOB leader’s freedom.
